About us
Established in 2012, Ubique Heritage Consultants Pty (Ltd) is a professional company consulting in various fields of cultural resource management, working towards the effective and sustainable conservation and protection of heritage resources in Southern Africa. Although currently based in Askham in the Kgalagadi region, we, as our name suggests, work ‘everywhere’ and have been involved with projects as far and wide as KZN and the Northern Cape.
Ubique Heritage Consultants has a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach in all archaeological and heritage impact assessments. We pride ourselves on our sound, professional and ethical conduct and methodology.
Ubique Heritage Consultants is subject to national and provincial legislation and the standards and regulations as stipulated by the National Heritage Resources Act (No. 25 of 1999) as well as the relevant professional bodies like SAHRA, the various PHRAs and ASAPA.
The team
Jan Engelbrecht
Director and founder of Ubique Heritage Consultants, Jan has 8 years’ experience in heritage management. He has worked on projects as diverse as the Zulti South HIA project of Richards Bay Minerals, research on the David Bruce heritage site at Ubombo in KwaZulu Natal, and various archaeological excavations and historical projects. He has worked with many rural communities to establish integrated heritage and land use development plans and speaks Zulu fluently.
Jan holds a BA (Hons) in Archaeology (specialising in the history of early farmers in Southern Africa (Iron Age) and Colonial period) from the University of South Africa and is currently completing his Masters in Archaeology. Jan also holds qualifications as an Animal Health Technician from Technikon RSA and UNISA.
Jan is a professional member of the Association for Professional Archaeologists (ASAPA) and accredited as a Cultural Resources Management Field Supervisor.
